Earlier today, we discovered that the Commissioner of Agriculture race was left off the mail ballot that voters received in the mail on October 7, 2022. After speaking to Ms. Wise from the El Paso County Election Department and her staff, she informed us that this occurred to ballots mailed out on or before October 4th and the steps that they will take to ensure that vote is counted for every candidate.
- Next week, El Paso voters will receive another ballot by mail that will state "CORRECTED BALLOT." We ask you to wait until you receive the corrected ballot so you can cast your vote for Susan Hays for Agriculture Commissioner.
- If you have already sent in the ballot today, don't panic! You will still receive a new corrected ballot and you can fill that one out and return it before Election Day. Only the corrected ballot will be counted.
- If you decide not to send in the corrected ballot for whatever reason, don't panic either! While we encourage you to turn in the corrected ballot, your vote will still count minus the race for Commissioner of Agriculture
- If you need assistance, please contact us at 915-209-0101 or call the Texas Democratic Voter Protection Hotline at 844-TX-VOTES or the El Paso Election Department at 915-546-2154.
Finally, I want to say that our El Paso County Election Department goes above and beyond to assist El Paso voters to access the ballot, and when an error happens, they are on top of it immediately. Section 52 of the Texas Election Code offers the remedies stated above when this error occurs. Texas Democrats will continue to fight for equal and fair access to the ballot box and we will do everything we can to help you cast your vote.
