the who, where, how, and why to vote in the 915
more info on: vote by mail
Let's talk about more on VOTE BY MAIL
step 1: get the app
in texas, you need to fill out an application and return it to the el paso county elections department.

click here to download the app in english or in spanish

if you're over 65, download this app - it's easier to read

make sure you do and know the following:
> know the address where you need your ballot mailed to
> if you're out of town, make sure it's somewhere you can get mail
> make sure to include both your texas DL or ID number AND your last 4 digits of your social
> Protip: include your phone number and email too IN CASE there is an issue and the election department needs to contact you
> remember to sign the application!
step 2: send the application back!
the deadline to send the application in is October 25, BUT we recommend you to mail, email, fax it by OCTOBER 18TH to get back in time!
You can return the application by

> mail: send to El Paso County Elections Department - Early Voting Clerk, 500 E. San Antonio Ave. Ste. 314, El Paso Texas 79901

> fax: yes, people still use fax and their number is 915-546-2220

> email: send to ballotrequest@epcounty.com

NOTE: IT IS STATE LAW IF YOU EITHER FAX OR EMAIL THAT YOU STILL HAVE TO MAIL THE ACTUAL APPLICATION AND MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN 4 BUSINESS DAYS!

step 3: when you get your ballot
you will get your ballot soon once you submit your application, but if need to know when it's coming or why it's not there yet - do this:
> call the ep county elections department at 915-546-2154 to check
> visit the secretary of state ballot tracker by clicking here
note: make sure to do the search with both your ID and last four of your SS number because sometimes its flakey
when you get your ballot: VOTE and SEND BACK ASAP

but, before you send, make sure to do this:

> put your ballot in the ballot envelope! that keeps your vote private
(it's a white envelope)

> then put the ballot envelope INTO the return carrier envelope (it's self addressed envelope with purple on it
>>>> BUT before you seal and stamp,
1. make sure you sign the return envelope because it won't be valid
2. make sure to put your ID numbers because THEY must match your voting record or it won't be vaild. PROTIP: put both your TX DL/ID number AND your last 4 digits of your social.

> put TWO first class stamps and send it ASAP. it MUST get here by November 5th at 7:00pm. It is NOT a time stamp deadline.

then again, call elections at 915-546-2154 or check the ballot tracker to make sure your ballot arrived!
read some important faqs
what if my ballot never gets here?

if you're in town:
STILL VOTE REGARDLESS! you can visit any early voting or election day site and you will be allowed to cast a provisional vote!
(if the election judge does not allow you, call elections ASAP at 915-546-2154 because you have a right to cast a provisional vote by law)

if you're out of town:
contact the elections department ASAP at 915-546-2154 because they can help.

what if i decide to vote in person instead?

you can still vote!! what you will do, if your ballot has arrived, you will take the UNUSED BALLOT to any early voting or election day voting site and surrender the ballot. then the judge will trade you a regular ballot.

if you lost it or trashed it, then you should be allowed to cast a provisional vote.

what if it's monday and I forgot to mail the ballot!?!

that's fine. You can either go to your voting center and surrender the ballot to the election judge and vote or there is a curbside drop off location at the county courthouse at 500 E. San Antonio (it's usually on the campbell side of the courthouse)

if you decide to drop it off at curbside, YOU MUST DO IT! a friend or family member cannot drop it off for you. also you MUST bring your ID with you.
